Good Times for
a Good Cause at the Kappa's Annual Golf Tournament
Over 100 Pros and Hackers undertook the challenge of
the 11th Annual Jube B. Shiver Golf Tournament. The Alexandria-Fairfax
(VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated,
sponsored this yearly event on Friday June 28th at Fort
Belvoir Golf Course. The tourney raised over $10,000 for
the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund. This fund provides
annual scholarships to young men in the Northern Virginia
area.
Despite a short rain delay, the team of Rayford Harris,
Ellis Henderson, Johnel Bracey and Posey Young from Richmond,
Virginia, posted a 57 to take the first place prize. Second
place went to Thurman Higginbotham, Larry Williams, Chuck
Shields and Jim Herger who shot 59 over the par 72 Woodlawn
course.
At the end of the round, the tournament banquet was enjoyed
by all with an amazing number of raffle prizes that included
rounds of golf from courses such as the Gauntlet and Colonial
to golf bags, vintage cigars and gift certificates. The
golfers also enjoyed beverages provided by Grand Marnier
and Coca-Cola. A brand new 3-hundred series BMW was offered
to the tournament player who hit a "Hole-In-One".
Tom Moorehead, proprietor of BMW of Sterling, donated
the luxury car as a prize for this contest; however, no
one had the good fortune of hitting the perfect shot.
Even without a "Hole-In-One", the Kappa Tournament
provided good golf and good times for a good cause.
