Revelers Ring in 2002 at the 16th
Annual New Year's Eve Gala of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The
most sought after ticket for December 31st is always the Kappa's Annual New Year's
Eve Gala. For the past sixteen years, the Hyattsville-Landover (MD) Alumni and
the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
have hosted this event. This year over 1000 guests filled the elegant Washington
Renaissance Hotel for the twenty-four hour extravaganza. To begin the
festivities, partygoers were welcomed by the Kappas. The casual receptions provided
an opportunity to greet old friends and meet new acquaintances. Each chapter had
a Polemarch's reception and then sponsored a dinner for all guests. The entertainment
for this informal repast featured the stirring sounds of local singer, Ms. Terry
Swinton. Three hours before midnight, the formal affair began with a performance
by Jazz sensation, Pieces of a Dream, which was celebrating its 25th anniversary
as a group. The Group, lead by original founder Mr. Curtis Harmon, introduced
its new CD entitled "Acquainted with the Night". Ms. Ramona Dunlap was
the featured vocalist with the group. Revelers brought in the New Year
with soulful grooves, well wishes and champagne toasts. A sumptuous breakfast
was served in the wee hours of the morning while the dancing continued. The guests
had the option of enjoying a Late Night Disco or Jazz Set with their dessert and
coffee. With the sunrise came the enjoyment of knowing that all had a good
time for a worthy cause. The respective chapters will use the proceeds of this
event to support Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.'s community and charitable endeavors. Congratulations
to Gala Chairmen, Mr. Chuck Parker and Dr. Bernard Chase, for continuing this
New Year's Eve tradition in outstanding Kappa style. Submitted by Mr.
